CAMRA – Good Beer Guide

Our clients have a wide range of requirements and we aim to provide the most comprehensive and flexible solution possible. In this case, the editorial team required a system that would allow them to manage all the data within their publication, including online searching and full rich-text editing. They utilised our fully integrated real-time proofing system, which links seamlessly to their editorial site to typeset the publication in accordance with their specification in parallel to editing their data, reducing production costs.

The CMS enables CAMRA to check progress throughout the gathering and updating of entries, by editors or sub-editors. No more waiting for all entries to be completed to start checking sections, this can be done as the entries arrive or on a batch basis. Indexing is automatic, saving time and ensuring accuracy with no omissions. Since auto pagination is part of the system, extent of the copy can be calculated at any time.

Market Research Society – Research Buyers Guide

With over 8,000 members in more than 50 countries, The Market Research Society (MRS) is the world’s largest international membership organisation for professional researchers and others engaged or interested in market, social and opinion research.

AMA DataSet has managed their data for the past four years. Each year AMA have improved the gathering of data and production of their directory. In our latest improvements, we have created a full online update, with the facilities of real-time composition proofing. This enables the entrant to view the proof as it would be in the directory, including logos, typeface and format. The online system guides the entrant through each section, uploading logos, sizing logos, sign-off and finally payment.

Since the proofs have been updated and corrected by the entrant, it has saved the Society approximately three weeks production and a cost saving. The system also knows who has, and who has not completed updates, giving the production editor greater control.

The BAR Directory

The BAR Directory lists more than 19,000 Barristers, 600 Chambers and features six pages of commercial advertising. AMA DataSet were asked by Sweet & Maxwell to produce the directory up to pre-press stage including setting all information from their final data, faxing 200 company logos for approval, and managing all the commercial advertising and artwork. From receiving the final data, PDFs were produced and approved within seven days.

Bodleian Library – Oxford University

This project was started by the Library over fifty years ago to catalogue all their incunable books (printed before 1501). The data was originally collated on slips, then transferred to word-processor package Sprint in the 1990s.

In order to solve the problem of producing the catalogue from Sprint, AMA DataSet designed and supplied two editorial systems, using FileMaker Pro database software to control the data.
